Broad Run took care of business in their home opener on Friday (barely). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 20-17 victory over the Riverside Ram. The win was some much needed relief for the Spartans as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Devin Ellison rushed for 187 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.0 yards per carry.
Mason Schwenke was his top target, picking up 37 receiving yards.
Several Ram players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Robert Evelyn, who rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown. That's the most rushing yards Evelyn has posted since back in September of 2023. Riverside also got a significant boost from Amari Barron, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 92 yards.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Broad Run will have plenty of time to enjoy the victory as they don't play again for a while. They'll take on Briar Woods at 7:00 p.m. on September 13th. As for Riverside, they will challenge Heritage at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Riverside is looking for their season?s first win.
