Basketball Recap: Clover Piles Up the Points Against East Gaston

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clover). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the East Gaston Warriors 78-7. The Blue Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 24 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clover to victory, but perhaps none more so than Samara Lucas, who went 6 of 7 en route to 15 points and three steals. Lucas is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Olivia Lewter, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 13 points and four steals.

Clover smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Despite the loss, East Gaston saw an underclassman step up: freshman Lilly Rymer posted five points.

Clover pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for East Gaston, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.

Clover and Cross Creek will face off at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Clover's defense has only allowed 29.7 points per game this season, so Cross Creek's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for East Gaston, they and Gaffney will face off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Gaffney will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something East Gaston surely won't give up without a fight.
