Hunter Benjamin made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Benjamin was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Discovery's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 4-1 (and 4-12 when he doesn't).
In other batting news, Noah Frabotta was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Payton Ellory was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Lake Buena Vista lost 16-4 to Freedom on Monday. The Vipers have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Brice Cox was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Luis Ramos, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Discovery's record now sits at 8-13. As for Lake Buena Vista, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Discovery has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lake Buena Vista struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Discovery's way against Lake Buena Vista when the teams last played back in February, as Discovery made off with an 11-2 win. Do the Spartans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vipers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
