The Waterbury Career Academy Spartans will be playing at home against the Crosby Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Waterbury Career Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 389 points over their last five games.
Even though Wilby scored an imposing 71 points on Friday, Waterbury Career Academy still came out on top. Waterbury Career Academy strolled past Wilby with points to spare, taking the game 87-71.
Waterbury Career Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zaire Lott, who scored 35 points along with two steals and two blocks. Lott has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Williams, who scored 27 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Crosby faced Kolbe-Cathedral in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The game between Crosby and Kolbe-Cathedral wasn't particularly close, with Crosby falling 79-64. Crosby's loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Daniel Melendez, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. Micah Blackman was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Waterbury Career Academy has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Crosby, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 13-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Waterbury Career Academy hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 76.9 points per game. However, it's not like Crosby struggles in that department as they've been averaging 79.9 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Waterbury Career Academy strolled past Crosby when the teams last played back in January by a score of 71-55. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Crosby's Curtis Ellis, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
