5A Region II District 15 recap Oct. 16, 2012
Del Valle moved up to 365 from 444 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region II District 15.
Lake Travis took down Akins 59-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Baker Mayfield threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns and ran for two yards in the win.
The Cavaliers' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Dominic Packer chipped in 66 yards. Chayce Pannell helped Lake Travis' passing attack out by catching four balls for 92 yards.
Lake Travis' Mayfield and Varshaun Nixon have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-2 quarterback Mayfield has thrown for 1715 yards this season, while Nixon has 32 catches for 429 yards. Josh Cleveland from the Cardinals leads the league in rushing with 950 yards.
Cleveland of the Del Valle is only 50 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Courtney Wash's team takes on the Chaparrals. The Cardinals are in fourth place, while Westlake is in third place.
Hank Carter's team led 5A Region II District 15 in scoring this week after putting up 59 points on the Eagles. Mayfield in the win.
