Baseball Game Preview: Twin Lakes Indians vs. McCutcheon Mavericks

The Twin Lakes Indians will square off against the McCutcheon Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Twin Lakes will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

If Twin Lakes beats McCutcheon with 12 runs on Friday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Indians blew past West Lafayette 12-6 on Tuesday.

Austin Robertson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cooper Dold, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Brummett, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Twin Lakes was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, McCutcheon came up short against Guerin Catholic on Wednesday and fell 8-4.

Jon Riley was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that he snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Aiden Riser, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

The win got Twin Lakes back to even at 4-4. As for McCutcheon, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.

McCutcheon's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Twin Lakes has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for McCutcheon, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Twin Lakes keep running through batters, or will the Mavericks buck the trend?

Twin Lakes suffered a grim 14-0 defeat to McCutcheon in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Indians avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
