The St. Augustine Saints will head out on the road to face off against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (St. Augustine has three straight victories, La Costa Canyon has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
With a playoff game on the line, St. Augustine rose to the challenge on Friday. They breezed by Mira Mesa at home to the tune of 37-10. St. Augustine might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won five matches by 20 points or more this season.
St. Augustine's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brady Palmer, who threw for 202 yards and two touchdowns on only 19 passes. St. Augustine also got a significant boost from Honor Faalave-johnson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to St. Augustine's defense and their three sacks. Bronx Letuligasenoa was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon came up short against Torrey Pines two weeks ago and fell 27-17.
St. Augustine has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for La Costa Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
St. Augustine was able to grind out a solid win over La Costa Canyon when the teams last played back in November of 2016, winning 28-17. Will St. Augustine repeat their success, or does La Costa Canyon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
