Columbia is 7-0-1 against Oberlin since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Raiders will be playing in front of their home fans against the Phoenix at 5:00 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Monday.
Columbia's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Cleveland Central Catholic as they made off with an 18-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Raiders.
Natalie Miller made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. Miller was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Grace Anderson, who went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, four RBI, and one double. Kenzie Shackelton was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Columbia always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .778. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cleveland Central Catholic only posted an OBP of .167.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Oberlin, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They put the hurt on Cleveland Central Catholic with a sharp 23-3 win on Tuesday.
Like Columbia, Oberlin also got a great game from a two-way player: Larissa Freas. She struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Freas was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing five bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, Clara McCown was a standout: she scored four runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Amaya Price, who scored three runs and stole seven bases while going 2-for-4.
Columbia's victory bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Oberlin, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Everything went Columbia's way against Oberlin in their previous meeting back in April of 2022, as Columbia made off with a 14-2 victory. Do the Raiders have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Phoenix turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
