Baseball Recap: Pikeview Makes It Four in a Row at Home

PikeView barely beat James Monroe the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers didn't even let the Mavericks on the board on Wednesday, marking the Panthers' second-straight 7-0 shutout. Considering the Panthers have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Eli Hilling made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because PikeView is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 9-10 otherwise. Hilling was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trenton Tolliver, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of PikeView's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 8-10 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Eli Naylor, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

PikeView kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

PikeView pushed their record up to 15-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for James Monroe, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-12.

Coming up, PikeView is taking a road trip to take on Greenbrier East at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Spartans have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season. As for James Monroe, they will face off against Midland Trail at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
