Fernley is 8-2 against Lowry since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Fernley will welcome Lowry at 3:00 p.m. Fernley is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
The home team had come away the winner the last three times Fernley and Churchill County had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. Fernley fell just short of Churchill County by a score of 11-9 on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Vaqueros have lost by exactly two runs.
Spencer Pryor made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. Vance Swindlehurst was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
Even though they lost, Fernley hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Lowry suffered their biggest defeat since April 12, 2024 on Thursday. They lost 16-9 to Elko. While the Buckaroos didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Indians 5-0 in the first period.
Connor Peterson was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Erick Valencia, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Fernley's loss dropped their record down to 3-10-1. As for Lowry, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Fernley has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lowry struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Fernley's way against Lowry in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as Fernley made off with a 15-0 victory. Does Fernley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lowry turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
