I Section II recap October 22, 2013
Westview added to the longest winning streak in I Section II this week by beating North, 55-13. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Cesar Chavez and Valley Vista played the most contested game in the league this week, with Cesar Chavez eventually emerging with a 13-8 victory.
JT Moore made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Monsoon lost to the Champions. The 6-foot-0 senior recorded 1 fumble.
Damian Alarcon put up the best numbers in passing as Valley Vista fell to Cesar Chavez. He finished with 11 completions for 132 yards and 1 touchdown. Alarcon's favorite target this week was Terry Juniel, who caught 5 passes for 50 yards.
Josh Sekoch's team's Alarcon and Juniel have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-3 quarterback Alarcon has thrown for 1,337 yards this season, while Juniel has 43 catches for 738 yards. Westview's Jalen Johnson leads the league in rushing yards with 1,227.
The top two teams in I Section II will face off this week when first place Westview takes on second place Millennium. Last week, Jeff Bowen's team bested the Mustangs, while Millennium beat Maryvale.
There should be lots of points scored when the Knights and the Tigers face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Westview comes in having scored 354 this season, while Millennium has scored 235. The Knights scored 55 points last week as they bested North.
Jason Randels' team took down the Panthers 59-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Walter Freeman threw for 79 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 28 yards in the win.
