The Belen Jesuit Wolverines will take on the Stoneman Douglas Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Belen Jesuit 3, Stoneman Douglas 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Belen Jesuit barely beat Coral Park the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wolverines never let the Rams get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Thursday. The Wolverines might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
Carlos Cantos Hulett looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.
At the plate, Andres Gross was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Pelegrin, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Belen Jesuit was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .542. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Stoneman Douglas and Flanagan meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Eagles fell 10-6 to the Falcons. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Eagles, who until this matchup were averaging 3.8 runs allowed.
Stoneman Douglas saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gio Rojas, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Belen Jesuit is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Stoneman Douglas, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-5.
Both Belen Jesuit and Stoneman Douglas just can't seem to miss. The Wolverines have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Stoneman Douglas struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Belen Jesuit couldn't quite get it done against Stoneman Douglas in their previous meeting back in February of 2025 as they fell 10-5. Can the Wolverines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
