The First Academy Eagles can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 67-51 victory over Taylor. With that victory, First Academy brought their scoring average up to 51.3 points per game.
Amari Smith was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 15 rebounds. Smith is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Rhett Walsh, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Several Wildcats players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Anthony Miler, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds. Alex Gomez was another key contributor, scoring six points along with three steals.
First Academy's win bumped their record up to 4-7. As for Taylor, they bumped their record down to 4-9 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home.
First Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Tavares at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Tavares is ranked 731st, while First Academy is ranked 724th). As for Taylor, they will head out on the road to challenge Ocala Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
