Armijo had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped down to 1-11 to make it six. They lost 17-0 to the Johnson Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 on April 8th.
Armijo saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ayumi Reyes, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
As for Johnson, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. Considering they have won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
On Johnson's side, Angelene Gonzales and Anissa Zavala were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gonzales pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Zavala pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. At the plate, Gonzales went 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs, while Zavala got on base in all four of her plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs. That home run was Gonzales' first of the season.
In other batting news, Leticia Gonzales and Lily Munoz did most of the damage at the plate: Leticia went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs, while Munoz went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave Gonzales a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Genesis Cortez, who got on base in both of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Armijo didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-8 win against Valley on the 29th. As for Johnson, they have also already played their next matchup, an 8-1 victory against West Campus on the 28th.
