The Madison Academy Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Brewer Patriots at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Brewer will be up against a hot Madison Academy team: the squad just extended their winning streak to five. Everything went the Mustangs' way against Mars Hill Bible on Tuesday as they made off with a 14-4 win. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 17 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Brewer came out on top against East Limestone on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run first inning. The Patriots blew past the Indians 16-5. The victory continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won eight in a row.
Gracie Lawrence was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Lawrence was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, AB Anton and Breia Rusk did most of the damage at the plate: Anton went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Rusk went 1-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Anton a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cheyenne Lucas, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.
Brewer kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as East Limestone only managed seven hits.
Madison Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 24-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Brewer, their record is now 15-11-1.
Madison Academy was able to grind out a solid win over Brewer in their previous meeting back in February, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
