Basketball Recap: South Newton Falls Despite Big Games from Madison Bohlinger and Faye Springsteen

South Newton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 19th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 28-24 heartbreaker at the hands of the North Newton Spartans. The Rebels were probably out for revenge after losing 42-38 to them when the teams met back in January, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, South Newton had strong showings from Faye Springsteen, who posted nine points and eight steals, and Madison Bohlinger, who earned five points and seven blocks. The dominant performance gave Springsteen a new career-high in steals.

North Newton can attribute much of their success to June Busboom, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 14 points along with seven rebounds and seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Culbreth, who had two points in addition to six steals and five boards.

South Newton's defeat dropped their record down to 0-9. As for North Newton, their win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-6.

South Newton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 73-30 loss against West Central on the 13th. As for North Newton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-11 defeat against Faith Christian on the 14th.
