The Saugerties Sawyers struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (the Wallkill Panthers had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Saugerties ended up on the wrong side of a tough 61-36 walloping at the hands of Wallkill. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Saugerties in their matchups with Wallkill: they've now lost seven in a row.
Despite the loss, Saugerties still got an impressive performance from Helene Kerr, who scored nine points along with six rebounds.
Zoe Mesuch had an outrageously good game for Wallkill as she scored 27 points along with eight steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Dembinsky, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Saugerties bumped their record down to 2-3 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Wallkill, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Saugerties will head out on the road to face off against Kingston at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Kingston's defense has only allowed 27.8 points per game this season, so Saugerties' offense will have their work cut out for Saugerties. Wallkill will be home for the holidays to greet Valley Central at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Valley Central is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.
