The Southwood Knights will take on the Manchester Squires at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Southwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Southwood didn't have quite enough to beat Oak Hill and fell 4-3. The defeat continues a trend for the Knights in their meetings with the Golden Eagles: they've now lost three in a row.
Natalie Sutphin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Rowan Goodpasture made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Rylee Thomas, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Manchester got the win against Triton on Saturday by a conclusive 20-3. The win continues a trend for the Squires in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won seven in a row.
Allie Egolf made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Izzy Renz was incredible, going 3-for-5 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Hadley West was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Manchester kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Southwood's loss dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Manchester, the victory got them back to even at 12-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Southwood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Manchester struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Southwood took their win against Manchester in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 7-1 score. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Squires have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
