Ian Alexander spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Columbine is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-6 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Matthew Kossik was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. He is becoming a predictor of Columbine's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Pryce Richie, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Valor Christian). They put the hurt on Chatfield with a sharp 16-9 victory on Thursday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Chargers recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Carter Lowery, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Buchold, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Columbine's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Valor Christian, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.
Columbine suffered a grim 14-7 defeat to Valor Christian in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Rebels have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
