2A-1 Region I District 2 recap October 29, 2013
Denver City added to the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region I District 2 this week by beating Lamesa, 41-0. The victory was the eighth in a row for the team.
Brownfield scaled the state rankings by moving to 656 from 711 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Cubs climbed the ranks as a result of topping Kermit 52-28.
The Tornadoes' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Roger Martin threw for 95 yards and Daruis Jackson had 58 yards receiving. On the ground Martin chipped in 31 yards. Jahlahni Edwards helped Lamesa's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 43 yards.
Martin put up the best numbers through the air as Lamesa lost to Denver City.
Lamesa's offense cannot be tamed this season and the Tornadoes feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Martin has thrown for 971 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Edwards has 24 catches for 264 yards.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Steve Taylor's team takes on Slaton. The Mustangs are currently in first, while the Tigers are in third.
David Richey's team fell to Denver City 41-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Martin ran for 31 yards in the defeat.
