Basketball Recap: Marcellus Skates Past Athens with Ease

Marcellus came tearing into Monday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25 points), and they left with even more momentum. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Athens Indians 56-25. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 24 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Marcellus to victory, but perhaps none more so than Abram Coffey, who went 6-for-8 from beyond the arc to rack up 22 points and five boards. Coffey has become a key player for Marcellus: the team is undefeated when he posts at least 15 points, but 8-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Adams, who went 6-for-11 en route to 16 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds.

Marcellus pushed their record up to 11-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 23.5 points. As for Athens, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-17.

Marcellus wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 61-34 win against Comstock on the 18th. As for Athens, they will be playing at home against Jackson Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
