Maloney is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Platt is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 10:30 a.m. on November 23rd. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Maloney at home against Conard as the team secured a 38-7 victory. Given Maloney's advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked 13th, while Conard is ranked 108th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Maloney's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ethan Nedinsky, who threw for 200 yards and five touchdowns. Jesus Martell was another key contributor, picking up 94 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Platt took their match at home on Thursday with ease, bagging a 42-14 win over Edwin O. Smith. Platt pushed the score to 35-14 by the end of the third, a deficit Edwin O. Smith had little chance of recovering from.
Joel Rey continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 162 yards and a touchdown. Rey is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last five games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Austen Standish, who rushed for 68 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Platt's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Jayden Vega was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Their wins lifted both teams to an identical 8-1.
Maloney took their victory against Platt in their previous meeting back in November of 2022 by a conclusive 44-21. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Platt's Avery Robinson, who rushed for 30 yards and two touchdowns. Now that he won't be playing on November 23rd, will it be that much easier for Maloney to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
