The Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Tuesday. They were dealt a 65-33 defeat at the hands of Sunnyslope. While losing is never fun, Mountain Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 162nd, while Sunnyslope is ranked 33rd).
Several Mountain Lions players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaliyahna Baldwin, who scored four points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Gloria Hines, who scored nine points along with ten rebounds.
Leading Sunnyslope to victory were Maggie Luba and Teagan McIlroy. Luba scored 13 points along with four steals, while McIlroy scored 14 points along with five steals. McIlroy has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Abbey Roth, who scored 11 points.
Mountain Ridge has been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Sunnyslope, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mountain Ridge will challenge Pinnacle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Sunnyslope, they will head out on the road to take on Boulder Creek at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
