The Springfield Tigers waltzed into their match on Monday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They secured a 80-74 W over New Ulm Cathedral. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Brayden Sturm was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Springfield's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Vogel, who scored 17 points.
New Ulm Cathedral lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Isaac Miller, who scored 30 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Miller has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jevan Wilfahrt, who scored 16 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Springfield has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 games, which provided a massive bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for New Ulm Cathedral, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-7.
Springfield will be playing at home against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Springfield's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for New Ulm Cathedral, they will head out on the road to square off against Cedar Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully New Ulm Cathedral focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Monday.
