The PikeView Panthers will venture away from home to challenge the Bluefield Beavers at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (PikeView has eight straight victories, Bluefield has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
PikeView had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Princeton on Tuesday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 14-1 margin over the Tigers. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 11 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Emma Compton, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Lauren Lambert was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
PikeView hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Bluefield fell victim to Graham and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the G-Men, falling 11-0. Beavers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the G-Men since Monday.
PikeView's win bumped their record up to 16-5. As for Bluefield, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.
Bluefield's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. PikeView has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bluefield, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 strikeouts. Will PikeView keep running through batters, or will the Beavers buck the trend?
PikeView got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against Bluefield by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
