The Discovery Spartans and the McKeel Academy Wildcats squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but sadly the Discovery Spartans had to settle for second. They fell 22-15 to the Wildcats. Discovery's loss continues an unfortunate trend for the team, making it seven in a row.
McKeel Academy got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Malayna Sheffield out in front who scored four points along with ten rebounds and three blocks. Sheffield is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last 17 games she's played. Jenna Jordan was another key contributor, scoring five points along with three steals and two blocks.
Discovery dropped their record down to 4-15 with that defeat, which was their sixth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.8 points per game. As for McKeel Academy, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-9.
Discovery does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for McKeel Academy, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 84-21 defeat vs. Lake Highland Prep on the 7th.
