If The Mt. Vernon Wildcats were riding high off their 38-0 takedown of the Princeton Tigers last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mt. Vernon had to suffer through a rough 40-7 loss at the hands of Gibson Southern. Mt. Vernon has struggled against Gibson Southern recently, as their game on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Gibson Southern got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Sean DeLong out in front who rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Michael Herren did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 98 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Mt. Vernon has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Gibson Southern, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Mt. Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Gibson Southern will head out on the road to face off against Washington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Washington is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
