North Newton is 9-1 against West Central since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Spartans are taking a road trip to face off against the Trojans at 4:30 p.m.
North Newton came up short against Delphi Community on Monday, falling 16-4. The Spartans haven't had much luck with the Oracles recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Korbyn Haberlin was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but West Central ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Caston, sneaking past 15-14. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Trojans' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Connor Huber was a standout: he went 5-for-6 with four runs, one triple, and one RBI. He has become a key player for West Central: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Holle, who went 5-for-6 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.
West Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 21 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since the start of last season.
With the win, West Central broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 5-7. As for North Newton, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
Everything went North Newton's way against West Central in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as North Newton made off with a 6-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
