The Dugger Union Bulldogs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their ninth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 50-29 walloping at the hands of Clay City. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Dugger Union in their matchups with Clay City: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brae Simpson, who scored eight points. Jordyn Smith was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five steals.
Lulu Koehler was her usual excellent self, scoring eight points along with nine steals and five assists for Clay City. Koehler is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last six games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kailyn Kirkling, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Dugger Union bumped their record down to 2-16 with that loss, which was their eighth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.9 points per game. As for Clay City, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-12.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dugger Union will face off against Martinsville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Martinsville is ranked 687th in Illinois, while Dugger Union is ranked 696th in Indiana). Clay City will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Northview at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd.
