Westlake is 1-9 against Oaks Christian since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Warriors will look to defend their home field against the Lions at 3:30 p.m. Westlake is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Westlake took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They never let Buena get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Bulldogs recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Presley Watters looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Brooke Bird Cespedes and Baylee Brown did most of the damage at the plate: Bird Cespedes scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Brown scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most runs Brown has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Tirsch, who scored a run and stole a base.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Oaks Christian's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Thousand Oaks by a score of 4-3.
Sophia Debs spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.
At the plate, Giabella Otani made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Terrianna Kelley was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Westlake's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-8. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Oaks Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-4.
Westlake couldn't quite finish off Oaks Christian when the teams last played back in March and fell 5-3. Will the Warriors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
