Given Richard Winn Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 81st, while Laurens Academy is ranked 227th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Richard Winn Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Drew Spires, who scored 14 points. The contest was Spires' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Bennett Nicholson was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Richard Winn Academy's win bumped their record up to 9-0-1. As for Laurens Academy, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Richard Winn Academy will face off against Our Lady of the Rosary at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Laurens Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Anderson Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Anderson Christian comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
