The Holy Family Tigers will be playing at home against the Thompson Valley Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Holy Family knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Thompson Valley likes a good challenge.
On Thursday, Holy Family blew past Standley Lake, posting a 56-3 victory. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 37th, while the Gators are ranked 135th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Browen Wills had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 120 yards and one score on only five carries. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Holy Family was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 282 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 168 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.
Holy Family didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jeremiah Stephens and Cole Jany. Jany got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Thompson Valley played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against Pomona, falling 28-7. The Eagles have been going strong on the season, but this is now their second loss in a row.
Holy Family's win was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.4 points over those games. As for Thompson Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Holy Family has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 177.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Thompson Valley struggles in that department as they've been averaging 174.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Holy Family might still be hurting after the 38-14 loss they got from Thompson Valley in their previous matchup back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Tigers, Joseph Urrutia (who rushed for 118 yards and one TD, and also picked up 35 receiving yards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
