Kelly Morrissey made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over 6.2 innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Those runs were her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Keyara Watkins, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Alonna Morton, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Monessen was not able to break out of their rough patch two weeks ago as the team picked up their ninth straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Jeannette, falling 15-3. That's two games in a row now that the Greyhounds have lost by exactly 12 runs.
Jaz'Mein Parker made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Serra Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Monessen, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Monessen's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Serra Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Monessen, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Serra Catholic keep running through batters, or will the Greyhounds buck the trend?
