The Costa Mesa Mustangs will face off against the Anaheim Colonists at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Costa Mesa lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Santiago, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's game. The Mustangs simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat the Cavaliers 42-14. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five contests by 28 points or more this season.

Gavin Garza and Andrew Waiss were among the main playmakers for Costa Mesa as the former rushed for 226 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry and the latter rushed for 146 yards and a pair of TDs. That's the most rushing yards Garza has posted since back in October of 2024.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous three matchup, Anaheim brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They breezed past Loara to the tune of 54-21 on Friday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since September 20, 2019, but that streak is no more.
Anaheim's win came from a few key players Costa Mesa will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Xavier Aviles, who picked up 94 receiving yards and three scores, and also threw for 55 yards and one TD. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made nine total tackles (2.0 for loss). Another passer making a difference was Jacob Campos, who threw for 146 yards and three touchdowns.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Anaheim proved: they limited Loara to a paltry 2.5 yards per carry. While two picked up at least nine total tackles, Aviles stood above the rest. He picked up 94 receiving yards and three scores, and also threw for 55 yards and one TD. Anaheim didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 8.4.
Anaheim's defense didn't let the opposing QB, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Loara's QB won't forget Joshua Meza Zavala anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Meza Zavala is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season.
The win (which was Costa Mesa's fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-1. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points over those games. As for Anaheim, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Costa Mesa might still be hurting after the 28-6 defeat they got from Anaheim in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Mustangs, Jason Garrett (who rushed for 52 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 106 yards and one TD) won't be suiting up this time.
