The Gonzales Spartans were the 57-56 winner over the North Salinas Vikings when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Gonzales took a 71-55 bruising from North Salinas on Wednesday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Shane Taylor was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds for North Salinas. That's the first time this season that Taylor pulled down eight or more rebounds. Another player making a difference was Logan Bayhonan, who scored 13 points.
Gonzales has not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-10 record this season. As for North Salinas, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gonzales will take on Pajaro Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Pajaro Valley is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for North Salinas, they will head out on the road to challenge Rancho San Juan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Rancho San Juan will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive.
