The Winfield Generals won the last time they faced the Ripley Vikings, and things went their way on Thursday too. Winfield skirted past Ripley 56-53.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Winfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Antonela Johnson, who scored 14 points along with five assists and three steals. Johnson continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Gabriella Canterbury was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Sophie Nichols, who scored 23 points along with five steals and two blocks. That was a full 43.4% of Ripley's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Eastman, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds.
Winfield now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Ripley, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-8 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Winfield on the road again on Saturday and play against Greenup County at 5:00 p.m. on January 27th. Greenup County will be looking to keep their three-game home win streak alive. As for Ripley, they will head out on the road to take on Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Lincoln is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
