Ferris has gone a perfect 5-0 against Hillsboro recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Yellowjackets will head out to square off against the Eagles at 11:00 a.m. Ferris is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Ferris took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They blew past Kennedale 16-6. Considering the Yellowjackets have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ferris got a massive performance out of Valorie Carrillo, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. Carrillo also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Madeline Welling, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
Ferris always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They are undefeated (9-0) when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hillsboro ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with a 12-9 win over Kennedale. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Izzy Hernandez spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and six unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cloe Creech was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Brynlie Vantreese was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.
Ferris is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Hillsboro, their record is now 15-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Ferris has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Hillsboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Ferris was able to grind out a solid victory over Hillsboro when the teams last played back in March, winning 14-11. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yellowjackets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
