Basketball Recap: Charlotte Lieu Key Part of a Team Effort in Mustangs Win

After losing to Brentsville District the last time they met, Meridian decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Meridian Mustangs took down the Brentsville District Tigers 52-35 on Friday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mustangs.

Meridian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Charlotte Lieu led the charge by going 7 for 8 en route to 22 points. Those 22 points gave Lieu a new career-high. Ellie Friesen was another key player, going 5 of 10 on her way to 15 points and three steals.

Meridian has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.8 points per game. As for Brentsville District, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.

Meridian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 50-37 win against Potomac Falls on the 14th. As for Brentsville District, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 67-14 victory against Manassas Park on the 14th.
