The Lake Highland Prep Highlanders and the Cannon Cougars will face off at 12:45 p.m. on December 27th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Lake Highland Prep's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
Lake Highland Prep has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 28 points or more this season. They really took it to Booker for the full four quarters, racking up a 86-39 victory on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 48-23.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lake Highland Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Lexi Blue, who scored 23 points along with eight rebounds. Those 23 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Ari Woodard, who scored 19 points along with five assists.
Cannon has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 23 points or more this season. They were the clear victor by a 73-49 margin over Oak City Prep. Given Cannon's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Oak City Prep is ranked 83rd), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cannon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Madison Drayton out in front who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. The game was Drayton's eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Mccorkle, who scored 13 points along with five assists.
Lake Highland Prep's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Cannon, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
Fans should be in for an exciting game on Wednesday as the two teams are among the highest scoring teams in the league right now. Lake Highland Prep hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 71.1 points per game. However, it's not like Cannon struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 64.2 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Lake Highland Prep strolled past Cannon when the teams last played back in December of 2020 by a score of 59-42. Will Lake Highland Prep repeat their success, or does Cannon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
