The victory was all the more spectacular given Sankofa Freedom Academy's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 218th in Pennsylvania, while East New York Family Academy is ranked 107th in New York).
Leading Sankofa Freedom Academy to victory were Jasir Henderson and Nafise Dubose. Henderson scored 15 points, while Dubose scored 16 points along with seven rebounds. The game was Dubose's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Nasir Brown, who scored six points.
Sankofa Freedom Academy's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for East New York Family Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sankofa Freedom Academy and Imhotep Charter will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Imhotep Charter's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season.
