The Althoff Catholic Crusaders pushed their score all the way to 60 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 68-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mt. Vernon. While losing is never fun, Althoff Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Mt. Vernon is ranked 49th).
Mt. Vernon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Navontae D nesbit jr., who scored 16 points along with five assists. D nesbit jr. is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last ten games he's played. Marlin Price was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Althoff Catholic has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-12 record this season. As for Mt. Vernon, they pushed their record up to 18-6 with that win, which was their 20th straight at home dating back to last season.
Althoff Catholic will take on Maryville Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mt. Vernon, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mater Dei at 7:30 p.m. on January 27th.
