Baseball Recap: Western Wins Going Away Against Coral Glades

While Western put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Coral Glades. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 17-0 margin over the Jaguars. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Alec Hernandez tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Western got a massive performance out of Christian Morales, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. The Wildcats are undefeated when Morales posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Ethan Diaz, who went 4-for-5 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.

Western always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Western's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Coral Glades, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-4 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Western will venture away from home to face off against Coral Springs Charter at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season. As for Coral Glades, they will head out to square off against South Broward at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.08 runs per game on average), something the Jaguars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
