Devin Gleason made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.
In other batting news, Luke Lannom was incredible, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times he's played. Another player making a difference was Eric Covarrubias, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, Tonopah didn't have quite enough to beat Pahranagat Valley on Friday and fell 12-11.
Caden Cox and Weston Miller stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cox got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Miller went 1-for-2 with four stolen bases and two runs. With that strong performance, Miller is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
Tonopah has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for Smith Valley, their record is now 7-1.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Smith Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .531. However, it's not like Tonopah struggles in that department as they've averaged .508. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Smith Valley beat Tonopah 11-7 in their previous matchup back in March of 2019. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Muckers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
