The Salamanca Warriors entered their tilt with the Fredonia Hillbillies with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Salamanca walked away with a 46-37 win over Fredonia on Thursday. Given Salamanca's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Fredonia is ranked 362nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Salamanca had a senior duo take command as Lezly Mccomber dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds and Karina Mireles-crouse scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Mireles-crouse hasn't dropped below two steals for eight straight games.
Salamanca has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-3 record this season. As for Fredonia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Salamanca will take on Dunkirk at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. The timing is sure in Salamanca's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Dunkirk has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road. Fredonia will take on Olean at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Fredonia is facing Olean at the right time seeing as Olean is stuck on a 11-game losing streak.
