The Welsh Greyhounds are taking a road trip to square off against the Iota Bulldogs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Welsh was able to grind out a solid win over Lafayette Christian Academy, taking the game 6-3.
Alexis Hayes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lauren Hayes, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Iota). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Ville Platte a 20-0 shutout on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for Iota in their matchups with Ville Platte: they've now won five in a row.
Haydyn Schexnayder made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Iota let Chloe Bordelon and Addison Cormier run wild. Bordelon got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Cormier scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Those three stolen bases gave Cormier a new career-high. Chloe Darbonne was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Iota was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .515. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive games.
Iota's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Welsh, their record is now 6-8.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Welsh has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. However, it's not like Iota struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Welsh suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to Iota in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can the Greyhounds avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
