The Morenci Wildcats will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Sabino Sabercats at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, Morenci got themselves on the board against Fountain Hills, but Fountain Hills never followed suit. They blew past the Falcons 63-0 at home. The win made it back-to-back wins for Morenci.
Morenci's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joey Seballos, who threw for 92 yards and two touchdowns on only four passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Casillas, who rushed for 146 yards on only 13 carries.
Meanwhile, everything went Sabino's way against American Leadership Academy - West Foothills on Friday as Sabino made off with a 42-21 win. The result was nothing new for Sabino, who have now won four matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Cameron Hackworth continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 325 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per attempt, and also punching in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Zachary Binford-Wiggins, who rushed for 50 yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Morenci to 5-3 and Sabino to 6-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Morenci has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 225.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sabino struggles in that department as they've been averaging 165.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
