Central A & M has gone 8-2 against Clinton recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Raiders are taking a road trip to square off against the Maroons at 4:30 p.m. Central A & M is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
While Central A & M's win against Shelbyville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Raiders had just enough and edged out the Rams 5-4. The victory continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won five in a row.
Gwyn Hardimon made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Riley Hazelwonder was excellent, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run. Another player making a difference was Brookelyn Jackson, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run.
Central A & M was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 6-3 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Clinton was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 12-7 to Tri-Valley.
Riley Fentress made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ariana Humes, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Clinton's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Central A & M, their record is now 11-13.
Central A & M's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Raiders have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Clinton, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Central A & M continue to outrun the ball?
Central A & M beat Clinton 11-6 when the teams last played back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Raiders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
