The Mt. Diablo Red Devils will challenge the Northgate Broncos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Diablo has given up an average of 16.5 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Faith Sotelo led a balanced group of hitters, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Esmeralda Rodriguez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Northgate fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Pinole Valley on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 5-4.
Ashley Herman spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 13 Ks. Those 13 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Taelyn Jriyasetapong was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Clementine Wyse was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Mt. Diablo's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Northgate, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 3-5.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Mt. Diablo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Northgate struggles in that department as they've averaged .318. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
