Basketball Recap: Ian Grimes' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Independence over Loudoun County

Independence was the 47-39 winner over Loudoun County when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Independence fell just short of the Loudoun County Captains by a score of 60-58 on Tuesday. Independence has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Several Independence players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ian Grimes, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 10 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Grimes a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Ratliff, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds.

Independence's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Loudoun County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence will take on Dominion at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dominion knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Independence likes a good challenge. As for Loudoun County, they will face off against Briar Woods at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Briar Woods has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 182 points over their last three contests.
