Newcomb is 2-8 against Tohatchi since June of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Newcomb came up short against Zuni on Tuesday, falling 22-11.
Newcomb saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Keyilnaazbaa Howard, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Nihikinibaa Howard was another, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Tohatchi didn't have quite enough to beat Wingate on Wednesday and fell 14-13.
Destiny Jackson made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Bobbi Yazzie, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Tohatchi's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Newcomb, their loss dropped their record down to 3-17.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Newcomb has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .448. However, it's not like Tohatchi struggles in that department as they've averaged .515. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
